The Crossboards of Civilizations: Ancient Culture of Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan, or the land of the Uzbeks, is part of West Turkestan, which is located to the west of Pamir Mountains. In the ancient times, this region was part of Transoxiana, which refers to the land between Amu Darya ("Oxus" in Greek) and Syr Darya. Many oases were formed along these rivers that originate from Pamir Mountains and reach Aral Sea. This region was also a major center on the Silk Road, situated at the crossroads of West Asia, China, India and the steppe region in North Asia.
This exhibition introduces Uzbekistan culture from the prehistoric period to the 8th century through its bronze and iron cultures, Buddhist culture, and Sogdian culture. In addition, the replicas of Afrasiab murals in which ancient Koreans appear will be shown.
