The Reliefs Of Borobudur Temple (Religious Approach)


This Final Project Studies The Reliefs in Borobudur Temple that have many stories and can be related to religious things, especially to Boddhism. By those reliefs, ancient people tried to give explanation about some conditions or stories of the study are to depict the name of the reliefs and the stories of the reliefs in Borobudur Temple.

The technique of data analysis used is qualitatif descriptive because this final project describe and explains from the data sources which have been collected. The approach employed is religious approach because the reliefsand Borobudur Temple have a close relation with religion, Buddhism. And the data sources are divided into two, primary and secondary data. The primary data is the reliefs of Borobudur Tample and the secondary data is taken from other related sources such as books and articles

The first result of this research is the depiction of the name of the reliefs which construct Borobudur Tample and the brief stories of them. The are five stories of the reliefs related to the Buddhism. They are Mahakarmavibangga, Lalitavistara, Jakarta and Avadana, Gandavyuha, and the last is Bhadhacari. Mahakarmavibangga tells about the law of Karma or the law of cause and effect. Lalitavistara tells about the Budha's life. Jataka and Avadana shows the previous Budha's incarnations and the heroic deeds of Buddhahood. Gandavyuha tells about a young merchant's son as he travels the world in search of wisdom. The last is Bhadracari which is concluding the Gandavyuha

The second is describing the story of Lalitavistara, the stories of : In anticipation of the Boddhisattva's final incarnation as an "Enlightened Being", Prince Siddhartha's childhood and youth, The "Four Encounters" and Siddhartha's "Great Renunciation", In search of Enligtenment : Gautama's years as a wandering ascetic, and Enlightenment and the Buddha's "Setting in Motion the wheel of Law". Those five episodes of Lalitavistara are depicting the story of Buddha's life.
